Fishy (novel)

  • Fishy is a novel that I started writing to express the overwhelming feelings from my subconcious, before I really understood that almost everything I wrote, one way or another, related to a repressed memory. Please be aware that this is 1st draft of a non-professional writer - I'm learning as I go. It is very hard to read and sometimes hard to follow. On December 27th 2009, when I remembered that I was abused by my father, the purpose of this novel as a means to remember ceased. I have set the unfinished draft aside to have it stop being my personal story and become Fishy' story. One day, I will polish it and start on the 2nd draft. Your comments are welcome.

    Chapters 1 to 13

SUMMARY: Many children, after they’ve been sexually abused, recover, and live on. But there are those that are raped to death. They turn into sirens, monsters that are destined to live out their allotted years in rivers and lakes, stealing human souls through their beautiful singing. Their sole existence is ruled by an intense hatred for humans as a race, especially because each kill brings back a memory from their violent pasts, to fuel more hatred for more killings. Fishy is a siren. Until now she survived on stolen pearls (human souls extracted by other sirens, stored in shells for “hungry days”). Unlike others, she is repulsed by the idea of killing, but when hunger overwhelms her, she kills a fisherman on Lake Crescent. Her first memory is of being dumped in the forest by her mother and converted into a siren by Yoki, a siren pack leader. Fishy was ten. A park ranger, Paul, her childhood friend who searched for her for years, witnesses her first kill. Fishy loves the sound of his soul so much, she doesn’t kill him, but chases him away from her siren pack, who punish her by leaving her bound to the lake, alone. When a school bus dives into the lake (I will change this in next draft to a car with two parents and a little girl), Fishy retrieves the girl from the lake. A firetruck arrives with Paul as one of the rescuers, and Fishy rides with Paul in the ambulance to escort the girl to the hospital, but the girl dies and her soul enters Fishy. Fishy’s second memory hits her. She draws a picture of a naked aroused man, at Paul’s tenth birthday party. She was nine. She comes back to reality and feels jealous of Paul talking to the female rescuer, Natalie. She asks Paul to help her remember more, he agrees, but she nearly kills him by screaming when she draws almost an exact replica of what she drew when she was nine. The little girl becomes real for Fishy. Her name is Ally White, and she is an image of Fishy when she was six. Ally drags Fishy into another memory, a bed, in the middle of the forest. Fishy vows to find Ally’s abuser (her own abuser) and kill him. She goes to town to look for Paul, but instead finds Corey, Paul’s younger brother, in a nightclub. He offends her by offering her to “finally do it” now that they are adults. Fishy flees and runs into a siren hunter. He chases her to the lake, where Fishy accidentally kills a baby that the hunter lures her with, by moving lake water with her scream. In the meantime, Yoki, the siren pack leader, steals Paul while he is unconscious, and delivers him under the lake inside a giant leech. While Fishy is distraught by killing the baby, Yoki lures her into breeding with Paul to create a super-siren, capable of wiping out hundreds of humans with one song. Wauna, another siren from the pack, who doesn’t like Fishy and has been a victim of Yoki’s before, rescues both Fishy and Paul simply to anger Yoki. Fishy has to kill several people to pay for the leech service with blood. Paul and Fishy find themselves naked on the shore, walk to Paul’s ranger metal boxes with supplies, get dressed. While hiking to Paul’s car, they run into the siren hunter again, Fishy renders him unconscious. Then they confront Yoki who came for Paul to try him with another siren. Yoki tells Fishy she ate her father’s soul and knows what he knows. When she senses police and dogs, Yoki runs, Paul and Fishy run as well, to investigate the siren’s hunter’s room, which, it turns out, he rents in the same house that Paul does. There, little Ally White appears to show Fishy her bed again, this time in her room. Fishy experiences another memory, of an abuse in the closet by her step-father. She was eight. Fishy flees the room, asks Paul to show her her house. It’s burned down. She decides her purpose in life is to kill all her perpetrators and runs away from Paul, into the forest. She saves a six year old boy from gang rape, kills all men from the gang, then converts the boy to a siren – the way Yoki converted her. A siren hunter attempts to kill her again, when it turns out that he is her brother. He paralizes her with a sonic weapon and takes her and the boy to the hidden medical facility where the siren family resided for centuries and where they strip out vocal cords from captured sirens, unable to kill them until they live out their allotted years, but rendering them useless. The leader of the siren family turns out to be Ally’s real father. He attempts to cut her vocal cords, but then Ally White appears as a real girl and saves Fishy by offering herself to her father. Rolf, the siren hunter, Fishy’s brother, let’s her go, this one last time, together with the boy, but promises to hunt her forever from now on. Fishy chooses the boy as her new family. When the boy asks her to never kill people, she promises to do that, realizing that she doesn’t know how they will survive, but that his smile is more important to her than killing. They play in the forest when they become surrounded by police looking for the killer of the baby, the boy, and the gang members.
